January Newsletter

Welcome to the January edition of my newsletter!

I had a couple of weeks off work over Christmas, and I’d love to say I got heaps written on the sequel to Pink Punch. Well, I got some writing done on it, though not as much as I’d hoped. Still, a break is always good, and I feel refreshed for the new year, both work-wise and with my writing.

What I did do was plot out the rest of the story. Usually I pants it, but I wanted to try plotting it and I think it was largely successful. One of the reasons I rarely plot in too much detail is that I lose what I’ve noted down. So… this time, I wrote each of the scenes down on palm cards, then put them all together.

This also makes them super portable and easy to take with me if I’m not writing in my usual spot.

The other thing I got done was design some stickers. I thought these would be fun to sell when I get around to doing a market stall to sell my books. More about these in this blog post.

I’ve also started up a Pinterest account. Mostly because I am getting sick of most of the rest of the social media options, and thought I’d try this one out. Apparently, your posts don’t get buried within 12 hours. If you use Pinterest, you can check out my writing account here.

Writing prompt

Here’s a writing prompt for this month!

On New Year’s Eve, your friends ask you for your New Year’s resolution. You haven’t thought about one, so you make one up without thinking about it too much. The next morning (or possibly early afternoon) you wake to a strange little woman sitting on the end of your bed. “Congratulations,” she says. “I’m the New Year’s resolution fairy. You have been specially chosen to have your new year’s resolution instantly granted!” And then, despite your protests, she gives a quick flick of her wand. “You’re welcome.” And disappears.

That’s it for this month. Thanks for reading my newsletter!

Laura.
